Hi, I’m Nick Livigne, owner and operator of The Painter’s Creed LLC. I’m a public school
teacher who’s been moonlighting as a painter for over 10 years. I offer interior painting services, but specialize in areas that your typical painting company does not. I have a background in theatrical set design, and have been trained in several faux finishing techniques. Murals and creative wall designs are also my specialty. As a sculptor, I have extensive experience in the repair and restoration of statues. I’m not just another painter; I’m an artist.
Attempting to paint cabinetry yourself can be a real headache. Without properly cleaning and chemically treating the surface, paints won’t ever fully cure; leaving you with a sticky, peeling mess! The process is time consuming, and requires adequate space and temperature control to do it right. Don’t attempt this hefty process yourself: hire a pro.
You bring the creativity, and I’ll bring the experience. If you can dream it, we can do it! That’s The Painter’s Creed!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have additional questions.
First step is removing the doors and hardware. Each door is numbered and brought back to the paint shop to be cleaned, prepped, primed, and painted on both sides. Once the doors are packed up, your cupboards get chemically treated with a degreaser/deglosser. This removes years of built up grease and cooking reside while opening the pores of the original finish to create a stronger bond with the primer. The exterior of the cupboards is primed afterward. Upon the second visit to your home the cupboard exterior is painted with two coats. During this time your doors are going through the same process in a temperature controlled paint shop. Once the doors and cupboards are completed the doors are reinstalled. The entire process takes 1-2 weeks with three separate visits to your household (about 3-4 hours each visit).
Only non-toxic paints are used and applied by hand to avoid fumes which can be hazardous to your family. Benjamin Moore Aura and Behr Dynasty are my paints of choice for both cabinetry and walls. Aura‘s self-leveling paints are best for cabinetry and furniture, but Behr’s newer Dynasty line boasts a scuff-resistant finish that is optimal for flatter sheens. Stubborn stains are sealed with oil primer if necessary.
Cupboard interiors are not painted, so you do not need to pack up your entire kitchen. In fact, you can continue using your kitchen as normal once paint dries. As long as cupboards aren’t overflowing so the inner edge of each cupboard can be painted you won’t need to do much to prepare. Just make sure over-filled drawers are emptied so drawer faces can be removed.
